Fila

Fila

A unique and creative mindset and approach has shaped Fila since its beginning as a family business, in 1911, in Coggiola, a small town located in the Piedmont Hills, near Biella, Italy. Originally in the process of creating quality textiles, the Fila brothers sought to produce materials that combined luxury, art and functionality, bringing inspiration from their homeland. Subsequently, moving to the production of premium underwear, Fila quickly became a global brand. Enrico Franchey was the managing director whose creativity and versatility drove FILA's unstoppable flow of growth.

The evolution of the brand into sportswear began in 1972. FILA was the first to bring color to the tennis courts with the White Line collection, aesthetically surprising for its functional design and unconventional use of color. Causing a sensation among athletes and fans, FILA then went on to innovate in mountaineering, skiing, water sports, basketball, golf and motorcycling. The brand has always tried to combine bold style with versatility and ease of movement, which has made it a must-have for practicing sports and living in total freedom.

Throughout its history, FILA has had several special relationships with top athletes in the most varied disciplines, each pioneer and revolutionary in their sport. With Bjӧrn Borg, FILA helped to change the way the world saw fashion linked to the world of tennis. In 1978, Reinhold Messner reached the summit of Mount Everest in high-tech mountain clothing from FILA. FILA went down the slopes with Ingemar Stenmark, in the race for the 1976 Garmisch Cup, skied on the snowy Italian slopes with Alberto Tomba and accompanied Monica Seles and Grant Hill on their tennis and basketball victories.

After its unforgettable success in the 80s and 90s, FILA currently focuses on the needs of athletes, at the same time that it creates collections thinking about the cosmopolitan consumer, attentive to the innovations that are made in the fashion world. This rich sporting history creates the inspiration for a contemporary and distinctive collection of sneakers with a vintage touch, where cutting-edge craftsmanship and design are combined with a vibrant and relaxed style.

On its one hundred and tenth anniversary, FILA then joined Katie Grand, a British stylist and cultural curator, to reinterpret a series of classic silhouettes from the brand's archives stored in Biella, Italy. Grand explored the history of FILA, focusing on several themes, including tennis, mountain, water, athletics, basketball, golf and motor sports, to present pieces chosen for their historical value and beauty, but reissued and redesigned for today.
